When I shoot, I like to keep things relaxed and spontaneous. Last fall I made a couple of small purchases for some cameras that I have been needing for far too long. I've found that it's necessary for me to have some sort of camera with me, especially while I've been traveling and on-the-go the past half of the year. Since most of the cameras I use are too big to fit in my pocket easily, I purchased a few smaller point and shoot 35mm cameras, the Fuji Natura and Yashica t4.

I love the small compact cams not just for their surprisingly good image quality, but also for how unobtrusive they are. It's so easy and fun to just pull one out and take a photo instantly, and then have to wait forever to see it. That's where the fun is: the wait. Waiting to see photos for weeks, maybe even months later makes the shots seem that much more real, especially events and things that are sometimes easiest to forget. I've begun to post a lot of these on my Tumblr, so feel free to check that out, but here are a few from my rolls last fall.

Using these film cameras not only allows me to keep that spontaneity alive in my work, but also keeps me testing and training my eye to see differently. As a photographer, I think that's an important step in the creative process and extremely crucial to perfecting and improving your style. Expect more from my work from last year, as well as in the future.

Cool shots Collin. I need to use my lil' cameras more often. Traveling light is always a plus too!
